This is the blog that is about the problem of chewing gum on our town's and city streets. Our dream is to see all chewing gum blocked from every pavement in the land.
We Hate Chewing Gum Litter
Do You Hate Chewing Gum?
If you are one of those people who when walking down a town or city street can't help but noticing the many splodges of chewing gum people have just chucked onto the pavement.
Such is the amount of used chewing gum on UK's streets that most of he time we don't notice it. But next time you find yourself walking down a paved thoroughfare look at the ground and you will be surprised at the amount of grey blobs of hardened gum.
Used chewing gum on our pavements becomes a real problem in the summer months. In winter the dumped chewing gum is hard, but during the UK summer months the used blobs of chewing gum are softened by the heat and stick you the soles of your feet.
So, you're going for an interview or a date in your new shoes or expensive trainers, you walk down the street - and you step on some warm chewing gum that somebody has masticated and spat out their mouth. The chewing gum stick to you, it strings along when you walk a few steps. And you have to suffer the embarassment of standing in public and removing the hard-to-shift chewing gum from your shoe.
Now we are not proposing any change in the loaw with regard to the litter of chewing gum. All we want is for people to be promote civic pride and not litter the streets with a substance that is literally a permanent stain on the environment.
The fact that we chew a stick of gum for half an hour at most and then we can dump it on the floor for it to stick to the floor until someone removes it - the slight pleasure for the price it costs to our councils, our local authorities, it is an absurd issue in the world of litter management.
